In August 2021, I attended the LoveYourBrain Yoga & Facilitation Training, excited—and a little nervous—to hold space for groups.

In August 2023, I joined my first LoveYourBrain retreat in Maine, a truly transformative experience.

By May 2024, I was volunteering at the retreat and was soon invited to become a Retreat Ambassador. I’m proud to support these retreats, which are free for participants, offering mindfulness, connection, and community for survivors and caregivers.
I ❤️ their retreat and yoga/mindfulness programs

My Personal Favorites & What Helped Me
These are the people, practices, and tools that supported me most in my own recovery — not medical advice, but lived experience.
Cognitive Support

Auditory processing challenges led me to one of the most meaningful supports I never knew I needed—a cognitive health coach. Through this work, I began exploring the bigger picture of wellness and how every area of life is connected, each one influencing our sense of satisfaction and well-being.
Crafting strategies and authentic language that empower me is one of Taryn’s superpowers. Her curiosity and empathy have supported real shifts in my quality of life and given me H.O.P.E. The Well Brain offers Health Coach consultations, and if this resonates, it’s worth connecting. I ❤️ being curious together.

Physical Therapy & Wellness

Traditional OT couldn’t quite pinpoint what was happening with my hand—until I found my friends at Rehabology. Through their Neuro-Robotic Rehabilitation program and data-driven approach, we were able to create a plan that truly addressed my concerns and fine-tuned my therapy.
As incredible as the technology is, the real magic of this clinic isn’t the equipment—it’s the people. The therapists make you feel seen, heard, and, when it finally happened, even worthy of a long-awaited, socially distanced hug. I once hesitated to share because they’re local to New York, but I couldn’t resist—especially now that they also offer TeleRehabilitation.
I just ❤️ being there.

Body & Sensory Integration
Relearning how to trust my eyes and ears—how my brain makes sense of the world—was just as important as learning to walk steadily again. These resources helped me reconnect to my environment with more clarity, confidence, and calm.

"Sight is how little you can see. Vision is how much you can see!"

I did not lose sight, but my vision was impacted. Mind-Body-World Optometry takes a comprehensive, holistic approach to neuro-optometric visual rehabilitation, and Dr. Slotnick is intuitive and creative in her support. I've improved so much - including balance, the awareness of myself in space, and widening my window to the world. I've been able to create art again. I ❤️ trusting the process.

For the first 2 years following my stroke, I struggled to understand and was consistently told there was nothing wrong with my hearing. That was true, I didn't lose hearing function, the problem was in processing, the point when the sound reaches the brain.

Beyond basic hearing tests, auditory processing therapy can support how the brain interprets sound, filters noise, and maintains attention—skills that can be affected after brain injury.
Finding Dr. Datino at Audiology and Speech Solutions, someone who finally understood what I was going through, was a gift that helped me return to our ridiculously loud family and live music. If not for our continued work, I would likely be hiding out, living a very quiet and lonely life. I ❤️  my loud Cuban familia again.

Elizabeth Arnold at Elite Health Services recognized that trauma was keeping my body in a constant state of protection, limiting the reflexes needed to support higher-level motor, communication, and cognitive recovery.
Through reflex integration work, I learned how specific movement patterns can “awaken sensory-motor memory,” helping the nervous system more easily restore impaired functions. For me, this supported not only movement, but vision, hearing, focus, memory, thinking, and emotional regulation. For the first time, I truly felt whole again—like my left side finally belonged to my body.

Naboso – Helping Me Feel Grounded
After my stroke, neglect and reduced sensation on my left side sometimes made me feel unsteady, almost as if I were floating. The textured surface of Naboso products sends sensory input back to my brain, helping me feel my feet on the ground, stand taller, and move with more confidence and balance.
